A Month Of Sundays: Day 19 (#547)

There are so many wonders in every day.  This day started out with a hard rain and just kept going until 2pm.  A great day for a leisurely mid-day nap.

Then the magic started.  I went for a drive to Cape Meares lighthouse down by Tillamook.  The road was closed due to storm and rain damage, so I went the long way round by way of Netarts and Oceanside.  One sits along the great Tillamook Bay and the other along the Pacific.

Driving back along the coast with the wind picking up and a light rain falling I passed a sign for Oceanside Beach.  My thoughts were on my cozy home and a hot cup of tea.  But something made me turn around and drive back to that beach.

As I made my way across a stretch of rocks I saw some people walking the beach very slowly, heads down; some were even bent over as they walked.  They were looking for something.  Clams? Beach glass?

Near the waters edge one gal said hi; I asked what she was looking for…..  Agates!  She showed me some of her treasures.  I was immediately hooked.  I too became one of the beach walkers, head down, looking for agates.  (pictures to follow at another time)

While treasure hunting I chatted with some of the folks who were all locals.  They all said how much they loved coming to the beach to hunt agates.  We all seemed oblivious to the strong wind and whipping light rain as we continued our individual searches.

One man came up to me and said agate hunting is a wonderful addiction.  Sometimes he even comes to the beach at night with a flashlight.   Then he said Do you know what the ocean said to the beach?  I shook my head.  The answer: Nothing!  It just waved!    I laughed.

He said he just wanted to share a laugh with me.  I thanked him and told him he made my day.

Thankful for another great day in my month of Sundays ~

What a lovely story. And I love your pictures. At least you got to get out and walk the beach. Good for you!

Sounds like you had a marvelous day … outside despite the rain. I look forward to seeing your agates. 😀 😀 Did you like the Octopus tree? 😀

  3. Chris Donner says:

I am jealous. I have never been able to find an agate, but then I was making the mistake of looking for them at Agate Beach. I’ll have to go to Oceanside next time we’re on the coast.
